The club, founded in 1932 at the behest of the then mayor of Santa Maria di Castellabate, Valentino Izzo, represents one of the oldest sports clubs in Campania. Acquired by Francesco Tavassi, nephew of engineer Carrano (from whom the name of the stadium that hosts Santa Maria Cilento’s home matches originated) in the early 2000s, the Cilento club is pursuing a project of sporting and social growth that passes through a thriving youth sector and a club on a stable footing in the main FIGC regional leagues. In the meantime, Tavassi has led Polisportiva Santa Maria Cilento, a soccer team from a hamlet of just 4600 people, first to Eccellenza and then to Serie D.

Victory in the regional Coppa Italia Dilettanti over SS Nola, played at the stadium ‘Romeo Menti’ in Castellammare di Stabia, home of SS Juve Stabia, club that competes in the italian Serie B, came at the end of penalty kicks, after at the end of the first 90′ the score was 0-0, while after extra time the score was 1-1. In penalty kicks, the Cilento Giallorossi triumphed 4-3.
